being perfect

Growing up, the people who provided guidance in my life would often repeat the phrase "Practice makes perfect".
If it was swinging a baseball bat, they would say "Practice makes perfect".
If it was math homework, they would say "Practice makes perfect"

It was a constant theme in my life.

Then I began to hear a new thought: "No one is perfect."
No wonder we grow up with emotional problems. The people in charge are confused.

Dear God!!!

Told my son to take his laundry and put it in the washer.
Seemed like a simple instruction.

Went down later and found the clothes in the washer, but it wasn't turned on.
When questioned on this, he simply said that I told him to put it in the washer. I didn't say turn it on.

Dear God in heaven, be with the human race, not sure we are the best thing you ever created.

Religion??

Looking through the paper the other day and happened upon the adds for  Worship Services.

Looking at it I decided that a lot of religion is in the hands of some really crazy people.

Looks to me like there are several thousand denominations alone in the Christian religion, and most of them don't think the other denominations are really Christian. Then we look at the Jewish religion, and it appears that it is Temple vs Temple for who is best. I am sure the Muslim faith is similar, as I know that this radical new jihad stuff is not in the original Koran.

I think that some of the wind storms we have on earth may be God letting out a long exasperated sigh as he looks at our crazy approach to religion.

Cant say I blame him,

STUCK in Life

Everybody was all up in arm the other day because the President had changed his mind on something.
The news said he was indecisive and waffling.
The experts said it showed poor leadership and would impact his reelection prospect.

Frankly, if someone never changes their mind I think they may be stuck in life. If I believe the same things today as I did 20 years ago then I am really stuck in the quicksands of life.

To me, if I am stuck in life, I might as well be dead. So I guess our President is still alive.
Good for him.

Today's Music - Trouble

Heard someone say that this Rap music was destroying the youth of today.

Reminded me of how my folks said Elvis was doing the same thing to my generation.

I think my grand parents thought my parents were in trouble when they danced "Jive" to Glen Miller.

I immagine some cave man thinking the next generation was doomed because they danced around a campfire.

The great thing about life is that some things never change.

My New Phone

Got a new phone the other day.

It has the ability to take pictures, movies, keep track of my calendar, give me directions, contact a web site, and a thousand other things.

It took me a full day to figure out how to make a phone call.
I think I will be satisfied with that accomplishment for a while.

No need to wear my brain out.

Playing with dolls

I played dollhouse the other day. Took some effort to get down on the floor and get comfortable, but it was worth the effort.

I learned that you have to take the clothes off the baby and put them back on at least 20 times.

I discovered that you have to hold a baby doll just right when you give it a bottle, or there can be some very serious consequences.

I was informed that when it was naptime for the one baby doll, it was then play time for the other one.

All in all, it was a very informative time in the world of dolls. Best part though was the living doll who instructed me on how to play in her world. I really love her.

Senior Citizen Discount

Used my Senior Citizen discount today.

That was a mixture of emotions.
I was happy to get the discount, but was hoping someone would question if I was really entitled to it.

Didn’t happen.

Clerk just smiled and wished me a good day.

Oh well, life is still good, and now it's sometimes cheaper.

Talking to my trees

I was in New York City yesterday and I talked with my trees.

I know, that sounds rather bizarre, but they are the only things that are alive in Manhattan that aren’t moving at 100 MPH.

They sit outside my subway station, just across from the World Trade Center, and some of them have watched the city since George Washington was President. One of them was killed when the World Trade Center was destroyed. Obviously, they have seen a lot.

Anyhow, yesterday they told me the key to a good life. ROOTS, SHOOTS AND FRUITS.  They said that the deeper the roots go, the stronger the shoots will be. If the shoots are strong, they produce good fruits.

Made me consider just how deep my roots go in this life.

Not a bad conversation for a bunch of trees.

Vacations vs. Trips

My wife and I are planning several vacations. Those are times when the two of us go away and pretend we don’t have a care in the world.

We used to do the same thing with the kids, but we didn’t call those vacations, we called them trips. The trips were fun, but in all honesty,

I like the vacations better,

Senior Moment

The other day I ran into someone I hadn’t seen in years.

I was surprised how old this person had become.

I was sure he was surprised at how well I had maintained my youth and how young I looked.

Hey that's my fantasy and I’m sticken to it.

Empty Table

Watched a couple have dinner in two different places tonight.

He sat at the table  in his place and she sat at the table in her place.
Same table, no connection, no smiles, no conversation,
just eating together in two different places.

I wanted to believe it was just a bad night, but I knew it was just a bad relationship.

They made me so sad that I kissed my wife
and then I felt better.

The City

Watched the city of Manhattan grow large in the window of my train today.
The bigger it got the smaller I felt.

I feel the same when I am on the ocean,

but it feels good there.

Life is good

Talked to the marina today.

They said my boat would be in the water in two weeks.

I wiped a tear from my eye and acknowledge the perfection of God.

Doesn’t take much to make me appreciate the goodness of life.

Opinions

Ran into a man today that had some strong opinions.

I like opinions; have had a lot of them in my life and changed most of them.

The problem with this man was his belief that his opinions were right.  Guess I will check with him in a few years and see if he still believes they are right.

Then again, maybe I just won't bother. Don’t think I need the aggravation.

Cost of Living

Just read that the government declared that the cost of living has not gone up, therefore pensions and social security will not get a cost of living increase.

Hmmmm – gas price = $3.89 a gal; cant buy eggs, milk, bread and butter for under $20; cost me $30 for us to see a movie (and I wont even get into the popcorn).

I do enjoy the knowledge that our country is being run by some really smart people.

In spite of their combined talent and abilities,  life is still great!

The Weather People

Sitting today watching the weather people tell me about the beautiful sunny day we were having. Showed me a special radar that couldn’t find a cloud in the sky.

Promised me that this weather would hold for the week.

Looked outside and it was raining. Sometimes it is just beyond understanding!!

Winter

I am told that we experience hardship so that the good things in life can be appreciated. I guess I will really appreciate Summer this year. Just say'n

Readers’ hearts will be beating hard as they join in this adventure where people come back from the dead, wear so many facades you’re not quite sure who’s on the good or bad side of the law, while experiencing the growing attraction between the lady ‘cop’ who could be lying through her teeth and the normally bored psychologist who stepped into the adventure of a lifetime.

The author, a practicing psychotherapist, certainly knows how to light a fire at the beginning of a tale and guide the reader through all types of personalities and red herrings that will make them very disappointed when the story has to come to an end.

Quill Says: This is one psychologist who has met his match when it comes to a truly astonishing female!
