World Trade Center

Every week for the last ten years I’ve walked by the hole in the ground that used to be the World Trade Center. I think back on the early days of 9/11 when I couldn’t get to my office which was a block away.
My wife couldn’t get to her office, it had been in the Tower 2 of World Trade Center.
Today I stopped to look at the construction. They’re making progress and the buildings are going back up. Never-the-less, my memories of that day still remain the same. Maybe remembering helps me to be grateful for being alive today. Can’t change history, but can be at peace in this moment. Just say'n

Beach Thoughts

Went walking on the beach the other day and saw a flock of birds flying around.
Must have been 100 of them in the air.
They would head one way and then turn on a dime and go the other. Then they would land, walk around, and on some silent cue, would once again head into the air. They worked in perfect harmony with each other and it was beautiful.

Watched the news that night and once again saw what a mess things are all over the world.

I think we aught to let the birds run things for a while.

Kingston Trio

I was in iTunes the other day and ran across an album by the Kingston Trio, a folk group popular back in the 60’s. Bought the album and have been lost in musical history ever since. Four of us started a group back in the 60’s and called it the “Scottsdale Trio”. I know, why would four guys call themselves a trio, but remember, it was the 60’s and we thought we could do whatever we wanted.

I started down the path of the simplicity of the “good ol days” until I began to remember that it was the time of Vietnam War, Kent State shootings, assassination  of two Kennedy’s and King, and other uncertainties. All in all, it wasn’t such a “good ol days”, so I decided to stop going down that path.

One thing for sure, four guys who called themselves the “Scottsdale Trio” had a lot of fun and made some good music. Think I will just stay with that thought. Just Say’n.

What?????

My profession in life is a psychotherapist for individual and couple counseling. Over the years there have been a lot of very interesting conversations and a few of them spun my ability to remain professional.
One time, over a year ago, I had a new client who came into my office and commented on how they liked my candle in the corner. I always keep a candle lit in the office to remind myself there isn’t enough darkness in the universe to put out light, but that’s another story.
Anyhow, my new client looks at the candle for a minute and then smiles at me and says, “I like incest.”
That got my attention rapidly.  “How long has this been going on?”,  I asked. The client replied, “I think since I was young, but I’ve liked it more in the last few years. I love the way it makes my house smell.”

At that point I was completely lost, worried about patient rights, concerned about reporting this if there is a victim involved and wondering what in the world to do next. The client then smiled and said, “I like the ones that smell like frankincense the most.”

I had sudden understanding. My client didn't say she liked “incest", she said she liked “incense”. Obviously the session went much easier once I made that distinction. Never did share the story with her, didn’t want her to know how weird her therapist really was. Just say’n.

Readers’ hearts will be beating hard as they join in this adventure where people come back from the dead, wear so many facades you’re not quite sure who’s on the good or bad side of the law, while experiencing the growing attraction between the lady ‘cop’ who could be lying through her teeth and the normally bored psychologist who stepped into the adventure of a lifetime.

The author, a practicing psychotherapist, certainly knows how to light a fire at the beginning of a tale and guide the reader through all types of personalities and red herrings that will make them very disappointed when the story has to come to an end.

Quill Says: This is one psychologist who has met his match when it comes to a truly astonishing female!
