Strange new sounds

Getting in the car the other day, I suddenly realized that I was making a strange new sound. It was a guttural groan set off by my putting my body behind the steering wheel of my car.
I have been getting in and out of cars for a long time, but I don’t remember making this sound.
I watched myself get out of the car when I arrived at my destination and sure enough, I made the same sound. Now very aware of this phenomena, I listened as I walked up the stairs, kneeled down to pick up a sock, got out of bed in the morning, sat in a chair, got out of the chair, and several other places where I had to bend or stretch my body.
This sound must be because of global warming or something. I don’t think it has anything to do with my body getting older. Just say'en

Grumpy old man

Talked to someone the other day who wore me out. This person is the same age as I am, is in good health, just retired, and is ready to die. I haven't heard so much negative outlook from one person in a long time.

I tried to encourage him to try something new like ballroom dancing, golf, fishing, or anything other than sitting and watching TV. To him, dancing was for sissies, golf was boring, fishing was too much work, and anything else I mentioned was also not a good idea.

He hates the cold, but refuses to move south. Wants to be with his family, but never goes to see them. Doesn’t like to read, won’t try art, hates music, and generally doesn’t like to do anything.

This man isn’t depressed, he just is lazy. To him it is easier to complain about the problem than pursue a solution.
The good thing about being with him was the ability to see what I never want to become. Life is good, how sad to waste it. Just Say’n.

Designed to make me insane

The brake light went out on my car the other day. No big deal, just needs a new bulb. When I open the trunk to replace the bulb, there is nothing indicating that a tail light even exists. No wires, no fixture, no holder, just a metal frame. I notice a couple screws in the frame, so I take them out. Now the frame drops down and reveals a plastic holder with wires attached.
Still no bulb.
I remove the plastic holder by detaching several wires and a small plastic clip that breaks as I remove it.
At last, some wires that run to what appears to be a bulb holder, but alas, no way to get to the bulb unless I unscrew the holder.
One hour later I finally get the bulb out. In my trunk I now have about twenty different parts that all have to be reassembled. It is enough to make a grown man cry. What ever happened to simplicity? Just Say'n

Brrrrrrrrrrr

We have had a cold winter, for which I am not eternally grateful.
It is cold, cold, cold. I know there are very good reasons for seasonal weather changes, but I still don’t see the benefit to cold.
I talk to some people who like the cold, and I guess that’s why we all are different.
People live in warm climates year round and don’t seem to be harmed by the lack of cold.
I guess the people in places like Wisconsin, Alaska, and others find cold to be wonderful.
Nevertheless, I am cheering for global warming. Just say’n.

If you like the book or audiobook, give it a review on Amazon. If you don’t like the book, I guess you could give it a review there too, but you will break my heart. LOL Just Say'n

The answer for holiday stress

It’s that time of the year when the Mall’s are anxiety producing. I do holiday shopping in as few stores as possible, but I still end up with a headache. The anxiety starts early in the parking lot when you slowly drive your car, following a shopper laden with packages until they arrive at their car. Then you sit and glare at every car who might come close to your newly found parking spot.

Then, in every one of the stores we are bombarded with the music designed to make you want to throw up. From Regis Phillbin to the Chipmunks, we are entertained with thoughts of holiday cheer which are engineered to reflect insincerity.

However, in the midst of all this insanity, I discovered there is a hidden cure for holiday mania. It’s a secret that took some skill to unlock, but I will share it with you. Take a pen and write in large letters ‘STRESSED”. Now recopy the word starting from the D and moving back to the S.
Behold the divine sign that will point in the direction of your survival. It is a gift from God. Follow what it says and you will have a wonderful time of the year. Just Say’n.
P.S.  You can only follow this advise until January 1, then you have to go back to the diet. Till then, follow the sign with reckless abandon.

Agree to disagree

The other day I listened to a couple who were obviously having trouble communicating.  The reason I was listening came from their conclusion that if they yelled at each other, they would communicate better. Didn’t really work for them, but for those of us within a half mile, we all heard their conflict of understanding.
Here are some facts concerning arguments I’ve gathered over the years:

- A single fact can ruin a good argument.
- Do not argue with an idiot; he will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.
- Never argue with a fool ... he may be doing the same thing.
- Many arguments have two sides, but no end.

I think disagreement is a good thing, it opens the door to different opinions. But when a person decides they possess the only ultimate truth, then they declare their opinion is the only one that counts. When this happens, I generally leave them and their opinions in another room. Just Say'n.
Here is a fact. People who join our blog are happier people. You can't argue with this until you join our blog. Hit the "follow this blog" button or the Twitter or Facebook buttons. After you do it, then you will be able to formulate your own opinion; but mine is the only one that counts. Just say'n.

Worry, Worry, Worry

Mark Twain once wrote that he had been through a lot of difficult things in his life - and some of them had actually taken place.

I thought about that when I began to worry about something the other day. The thing hadn’t actually happened (and in the end it never did take place) but here I was all worried about it like it was real.

Life would be a lot easier to navigate if I just faced what was instead of worrying about what might be.

Wrong direction

We were out in the ocean today, about two miles from land, when I spotted this butterfly fluttering near the boat.
There wasn’t any way he could be out there other than flying. It looked like he was just bouncing around in the wind, enjoying the beautiful summer day out on the ocean, thinking what a great trip he was having. Problem was, he was heading further away from dry land. I watched him as he continued his journey and wondered if it would ever dawn on him that his decision to be miles away from land wasn’t really a good decision.
I’ve made choices like that in my life. Started out on some plan that seemed real good at the time, kept doing more of it, but forgot to count the cost until too late I finally realized - this was a bad decision.
I learned a lot from my mistakes, so I guess nothing is ever wasted. Nevertheless, I have a bad feeling the butterfly’s decision may not have a good ending.
Probably a lot of people felt that way about some of my decision over the years, yet I am still flying.
I am praying for the butterfly. Just Say’n.

Calm down

I was all concerned because I was running late.
Had to be someplace on time.
Then I realized, it wasn't life threatening to be late, it was just inconvienient.

We need a 0-10 scale for life.
1 is wonderful and 10 is truly terrible and horrible (like the loss of someone you really love).

Then we could look at dumb things like being late and give it a true value of importance.

In all honesty, most things are really just a 1 or 2.

Self acceptance

Talking to people, I’m often fascinated with the level of disrespect many have toward themselves. I think a lot of the anger in our society is an attempt by others to make people around them feel as miserable about life as they do.
For example, if I dont like who I am, then you become a threat. Not that you did anything, just the fact that you exist bothers me, because you may seem to be happy, and I am not. Therefore, let me make you unhappy so I feel better.
After thousands of years of evolvoing as the human species, it often seem we haven’t come very far.

One of the things I use in my practice is the aspect of U.S.A.. In this case, U.S.A. stands for Unconditional Self Acceptance. That means a person will accept who they are without judgement. I am a wonderful person and I am also a person who has not so wonderful aspects. I love humor but I also have a dark side. It is just who I am. No judgement, just observation.

Try it sometime when your inner voice tells you all the bad things about yourself. Just say, “Yep that’s true” and then remember that the opposite is also part of you. It is just who we are. If we accept ourselves without condemnation, then we won’t have to dump all our junk on others. Just say’n.

Mr. Peanut

One of my weaknesses in life is the salted peanut. I don’t know if they’re healthy or unhealthy; I like them too much to do research. I might find something bad about them, so I just stay ignorant.
However, I was looking at Mr. Peanut, the logo on the Planters Peanut can, and I became somewhat concerned about the statement he is making. If you ran into someone on the street who wore a tophat, monocle, gloves, shoes, and nothing else,  I think we would call the police.
A quick assessment would suggest he must have bad vision in only one eye, obviously has some problem walking which calls for a cane, is a blatant exibitionist, and is delusional enought to be happy about it all.
I think I will just enjoy the peanuts and put the can away. Just Say’n.

Duct tape

I saw this picture and decided there are people in the world who are just plain dumb. Can you immagine the pain that took place when this idiot decided to take the duct tape off? I mean you can’t get that glue to unstick no matter what you use. Besides, what a terrible waste of good duct tape. I have come to the conclusion that we could probably solve a lot of problems in Washington if we just duct taped a lot of mouths.

Duct tape was developed during WWII to keep ammunition dry and has evolved to a standard household item for fixing anything. It has even become part of the space program. Check this out: In a 2001 NASA manual for spaceflight operations aboard the International Space Station, duct tape is even called for in case of “acutepsychosis” during a space mission; NASA procedures call for its use to restrain the affected astronaut

In addition, duct tape was used to repair one of the lunar vehicles during a walk on the moon.
So next time you feel like your world is falling apart, go for the duct tape. Just say'n

A review of J T Twerell's Catch and Release by Featheredquill Book Reviews

Featheredquill Book Reviews

P.O. Box 304 Goshen, MA 01032 Fax: 413-268-0381 www.featheredquill.com info@featheredquill.com

Readers’ hearts will be beating hard as they join in this adventure where people come back from the dead, wear so many facades you’re not quite sure who’s on the good or bad side of the law, while experiencing the growing attraction between the lady ‘cop’ who could be lying through her teeth and the normally bored psychologist who stepped into the adventure of a lifetime.

The author, a practicing psychotherapist, certainly knows how to light a fire at the beginning of a tale and guide the reader through all types of personalities and red herrings that will make them very disappointed when the story has to come to an end.

Quill Says: This is one psychologist who has met his match when it comes to a truly astonishing female!
