Bar B Q

A great joy of summer holidays is the Bar B Q. I was curious to find out where we got the word. A popular story is it comes from bars who had pool tables. They were known as "Bar, Beer, and Que", which was shortened to BAR-B-Q or BBQ. That sounded strange to me, as it had nothing to do with cooking. I finally discovered it comes for the Taino people in the Caribbean and is known as barbacoa or the "Sacred Fire Pit."
The next time I open the Bar B Q, light the fire, and begin the ritual of preparation for feast, I will remind the family to speak softly and reverently to me as I am now Chief of the Sacred Fire Pit.
 My wife will probably look at me like I am weird and just tell me to not burn the hamburgers on the Sacred Fire Pit like I did last time.  Just Say'n
